Adult Program – Ballet, Jazz & Tap!

Dance is not just for children! Have you always dreamed of being a dancer but never had the opportunity as a child? Did you dance as a child and want to come back as an adult, but you don’t want to dance alongside children? Do you want to get a great workout in a safe, supportive environment? Our Adult Program is for you! We offer tap, jazz, and multiple levels of ballet classes to meet the unique needs of adult dancers.

The teachers in our Adult Program danced throughout their childhood and teenage years. Most took many years away from dance and returned as adult dance students, just like you! All of our Adult Program faculty want nothing more than to help adults develop the same passion for dance that continues to drive them. They know how adult bodies move and are committed to offering classes that are safe yet challenging for the adult student. Teaching dance to adults isn’t just an afterthought for them. It’s their passion!

One unique element of our Adult Program is that performances are optional. We would love to have you in our annual Nutcracker performance (ballet only) and spring recital, but we recognize that not all adult dancers are comfortable performing. We give you the freedom to choose!

Dress Code – Ballet: Ballet shoes and form-fitting attire (preferably leotard and tights for women and tee shirt and black tights for men, but leotard & tights are not required!)
Dress Code – Tap, Jazz & Conditioning: Come comfortable and ready to dance!

Classes run on a weekly basis, with the Massari-Wood Calendar.

Adult Ballet 1: This is a great multipurpose ballet class for less experienced adults or teens. Classes include basic barre exercises and simple steps in the center of the room without the aid of a barre. Students in this class will learn the basics of being a ballet dancer such as how to  move with proper alignment to dance gracefully and avoid injury.  Saturdays 10:00-11:00am

Adult Ballet 2 This class is truly adults only, and a great class for dancers that are coming back to ballet – even if it’s been a few years (or more) since you’ve done a plié!  Dancers are expected to have a fundamental understanding of ballet technique, but not perfect execution.  Adult Ballet 2 has all of the elements of a traditional ballet class – without the emphasis on perfect turnout or jumps. This is an individualized class, with special attention paid to each dancer’s needs and goals. We will focus on waking up your ballet muscles, improving strength and flexibility, artistry, and most importantly, enjoying the art of ballet as an adult. Wednesdays 6:30-8:00pm

Adult Ballet 3This is a great class for experienced adult dancers who are looking for a traditional ballet class in an adult centered environment.  Like Adult Ballet 2, Adult Ballet 3 has all of the elements of a traditional ballet class – without the emphasis on perfect turnout or big jumps.  Dancers are given the flexibility to work towards individualized standards & goals, at a commitment level that fits your schedule.  We will focus on proper technique, improving strength & flexibility, learning excerpts from classical repertoire, and most importantly, enjoying the art of ballet as an adult! Wednesdays 6:30-8:00pm

Adult Jazz: This adult centered jazz class will have you moving and grooving.  Dancers can expect a traditional jazz warm up with a focus on strength and flexibility, and fun combinations to help you dust off (or develop) your jazz skills!   Wednesdays 8:00-9:00pm

Adult/Teen Tap:  A basic level class for students who already know flaps and shuffles and are ready to learn fun and easy combinations. If you can walk… you can tap! Tuesdays 7:50-8:00pm

Pointe Conditioning:  Conditioning is important for all athletic endeavors, including dance!  This class is specially designed to build strength, flexibility and control in your legs, and ankles, as well as focus on the stabilizing muscles in your core & turnout. Whether pointe is your goal or not, this 30 minute class will help with ALL types of dancing! Pointe Conditioning is for dancers Intermediate & Up, and also adults! Saturdays 11:00-11:30am

Breath & Balance Yoga: This class is the perfect combination of restorative stillness and dynamic movement. Start your Saturday slowly with gentle stretches to break up the sleep in your body, then move into an invigorating yoga flow that cultivates balance and strength. This practice relieves stress and tension by connecting breath with mindful movements that encourage the body to open and create more flexibility. A wonderful class for dancers and non-dancers alike!  Suggested props to bring: mat, 2 blocks (not required) Saturdays 10:00-11:00am
