Nutcracker Performance Fee

All dancers performing in the Nutcracker must pay a $40 performance fee.  Your payment will help maintain the smallest cherub halo to the tallest backdrop; make sure everything is lit, the music is heard, and even make it snow.

It really does take a village to put on any gigantic show like The Nutcracker and we truly appreciate your help, and love each of our dancing villagers BEYOND measure.

THANK YOU!!!!

Ideally, we will add this on to your November. You are also welcome to request a specific payment date (prior to the show) with Miss Katie.  Just send her an email ASAP to let her know your preference ([email protected])

Coming Soon! Nutcracker Merchandise & Tickets

Happy to report that we will be having Nutcracker merchandise again this year.  Be on the lookout for that as well as Ticketing information

Ad Space & Well Wishes

We are very excited to announce that we will now be providing ad space in our programs for you and yours!! Own a small business?  Love your school? Nana wants to wish her special little dancer, “Congratulations?”  We’ve got you covered!

If you’re new to the arts world, sometimes in addition to ads that help pay for the cost of MANY things, people will include well wishes to their loved ones that are performing in the show.  The wish will usually appear in a box with a pretty border and say something like, “Congratulations on your first Nutcracker, Clara Stahlbaum! We love you!  Love, Nana,”  or “We’re proud of you Fritz Stahlbaum!  Love Mom & Dad.  Something very brief that commemorates a fun occasion. Its just a nice way to give a warm, holiday fuzzy.

Tuition is based on an annual rate and is divided into 9 equal amounts to facilitate payment as some months are longer or shorter than others. In all our years, we’ve noticed that no one has ever said, “This month is longer, please take more money.” *grin*
Payments are due the 1st -10th of every month via your method of payment on your Payment Authorization form. If you have not filled one of these out, please contact Miss Katie. She will also be sending out emails to those of you with missing forms to collect your information as soon as she can find her desk again under all the beginning of the year paperwork. Please direct any tuition or monetary questions/matters to Miss Katie. If you are ever having a problem, let us know!! We can’t help if we don’t know what’s wrong.

Only dancers are allowed in the dance studio during class times, please. No gum, or candy or drinks are allowed in the dance area. Please be on time for classes as it is very disruptive to others when there is a latecomer. The instructors reserve the right to remove a student from participation if they are unruly or uncooperative.
Lobby Etiquette
When dancers arrive early for class, please sit quietly until your class time. PARENTS: Please watch your little ones. If you must leave during your child’s class, please make sure they know when you will return and make sure to tell them not to leave the studio until you return. No student is allowed to come and go without adult supervision. In other words: please do not leave students to wait in the lobby alone and they must be picked up on time. We are unable to supervise students before and after their class.
Class Size
Please bear with us during the first month. If classes are too large we will attempt to open another class. There is a minimum of 6 students per class. We may combine classes at the studio’s discretion. You will be notified.
Dance Notebooks
We will have dance folders for M&M, Pre-Ballet, Primary 1, 2 and 3 for each student. These will include copies of their dances, coloring pages, terminology pages and an mp3 of their recital music for their dance in the Spring. There is a materials fee of $10 per notebook.

Costume Care & Handling

For ballet costumes, the best way to hang them is on a hanger by the crotch to ensure the tutus remain nice and fluffy. Just turn the costume UPSIDE DOWN  and hang it over the hook of your hanger. Please label costumes and shoes with a  piece of tape on the inside of each– And you’re done! The wrinkles should fall out naturally while it hangs upside down, but you can also  hang the costume in a steamy bathroom-that should do the trick. Tap and Jazz costumes can be hung normally.

All of the dancers have made a Ballerina Promise (the most important kind of promise) that they will not eat or drink or run around crazy in their costumes before the show to ensure their costumes will be clean and sparkly for the show. After the show, they can simultaneously eat, drink, and run around crazy while wearing their costume as much as they want. Please help them keep their Ballerina Promise.

Class Moms

We’re still looking for a few good Class Moms!!  In case you missed it, I sent an email with the link to the Google Doc to sign up.  If you’d like to sign up and I need to send it again, please send me an email at [email protected]  No ticket required and you get all the backstage action.

Hair & Makeup

Our makeup philosophy is that children should look like children.  You will hear Miss Donna say this a lot and its absolutely true. They don’t need anything crazy like false eyelashes or contouring; just enough makeup to highlight their beautiful, natural features.   For ballet dancers, if you can get their hair in a bun, wonderful, but the most important thing is that its off their face.  Same goes for tap and jazz, just off their face.   I’ve attached some great YouTube tutorials to the email as well.

Performance Fee
As you may have heard, this is our 50th season in operation and ALMOST our 50th Nutcracker. For that entire time, we have been able to happily provide this wonderful experience to our dancers free of charge but now we need your help to maintain the magic. And the magic will cost $40 per dancer. Your payment will help maintain the smallest cherub halo to the tallest backdrop, make sure everything is lit and the music is heard, and even make it snow.
It really does take a village to put on any gigantic show like The Nutcracker and we truly appreciate your help, and love each of our dancing villagers BEYOND measure.
THANK YOU!!!!
Ideally, we will add this on to your November (if it hasn’t been run yet) or December tuition. You are also welcome to request a specific payment date with Miss Katie. Just send her an email ASAP to let her know your preference ([email protected])
PLEASE make sure you are current on your tuition. If you aren’t sure or have issues related to this, talk to Katie. Any questions about this or anything else, contact Katie at (423) 894-1406 or [email protected]

Tuition

Classroom Manners

Recital 2022 News

Welcome to the Fantastic Toy Shop and all things Recital. We are busting at the costume seams with excitement to share it with everyone!!

Dress Rehearsal Schedule

**All dress rehearsals are at East Hamilton**

2015 Ooltewah Ringgold Rd, Ooltewah, TN 37363

As you know, I try very much to make everyone happy.  There are times (MANY, MANY TIMES LATELY) when things happen that are out of my control, and I must reschedule plans/schedules.  This is one of those times. And BELIEVE ME, I know this not only affects MY schedule, but I know it does yours as well.  As I’ve mentioned before, I’m regretfully not a Wizard and can only fix so much. I know I spoke with some of you thinking that your child would be rehearsing on Friday, June 3rd.  It turns out our Toymaker has a mandatory work commitment and won’t be able to rehearse that Friday.  And since we can’t have a fantastic toy shop without a Toymaker, we’ve had to move that rehearsal to Thursday.  I am SO sorry if that causes anyone any problems; thank you for remaining patient, wonderful and flexible. That being said, please let me know if you’re going to have to miss Dress Rehearsal.  Thank you again for your understanding.

PLEASE ARRIVE 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE TIME YOU ARE CALLED.  Even earlier, please, if you plan on dressing at the theater for rehearsal. This assures that we can keep everything running smoothly and according to schedule. Please remain flexible as dress rehearsals can sometime run a little shorter/longer than expected.  We want to make sure everything looks and feels just right for the performance and that your dancers are as comfortable in their new dancing space as possible.

****This is only the order of Dress Rehearsal, not the actual show.  ****

Costume Care & Handling

If there isn’t a recital costume in your house yet, its arrival is imminent.

All of the dancers have made a Ballerina Promise (the most important kind of promise) that they will not eat or drink or run around crazy in their costumes before the show. After the show, they can simultaneously eat, drink, and run around crazy while wearing their costume as much as they want. Please help ensure they keep their Ballerina Promise.

Class Moms

We’re still looking for a few good Class Moms!!  In case you missed it, I sent an email with the link to the Google Doc to sign up.  If you’d like to sign up and I need to send it again, please send me an email at [email protected]  No ticket required and you get all the backstage action.

                        Usher/Box Office Help

I could use a little bit of front of house help as well.  I need a few ushers/ticket takers. PLEASE email me ([email protected]) if you’d like to volunteer, I would be FOREVER grateful and happy to offer my gratitude by seating you in the show ticket free.

I’ve attached some great YouTube tutorials to this email as well.

The Venue:

East Hamilton Middle High School

2015 Ooltewah Ringgold Rd, Ooltewah, TN 37363

When you pull into East Hamilton, you will drive straight until just before you reach the main entrance to the school.  Bear right and you’ll go in a sort of backwards C direction.  You’ll see another large entrance on your left, and that’s the entrance to the theater.  Park anywhere around there that you’d like.

You’ll go inside the entrance (walking past a giant glass window on your right) and the theater will be right in front of you.

For Dress Rehearsal: Once you arrive (15 minutes earlier or more than your call time, please and thank you) come inside the theater and you’ll be directed to dressing rooms if you need them; there should also be signs directing you to them.

If you choose to arrive with your child dressed and ready to go, PLEASE make sure they wear a cover up to and from the theater; we always like to practice good theater etiquette.

Performance Days:  Please arrive no less than 30 minutes before performance time.  Upon your arrival, please head straight to the dressing rooms.

Tickets:

Tickets are $15 (+$1.75 service fee) when purchased online/via telephone or $17 at the door.

Please note that the theater seats approximately 275.  This is plenty of room for all of  our local friends and family, but maybe wait until we are back in our bigger theater to invite Aunt Harriet and Uncle Fred from Florida if at all possible.

Recital DVDs

Our wonderful and talented friend, Philip Luckey, is filming this year. Recital DVDs will be available for $20 due upon ordering.  I’ll send out an order form that you all can send back to me.  I don’t recommend giving me ANY forms, checks etc. at the theater because I am very likely to lose them.  “Know thyself.”

Massari ~ Wood Dance Center February 2022 News

Recital Dates

As of this very moment in space and time, the recital is still on the books for June 4th & 5th at UTC (with dress rehearsals on the 2nd & 3rd).  As we have all learned all to well these past couple of years that things can and do change.  IF that happens, please try and remain flexible; you all are SO good at doing that. I will do everything in my power to make sure that nothing changes but that only works for me about half the time. *grin*  At best, the worst thing that would change is the venue…so fingers crossed…UTC has promised they will be finished with their construction.

Performance Day Voting

Primary 3 and up perform on both days of the recital.  M&Ms, PreBallet, Primary 1, and Primary 2 only perform on one day.  I’ll be taking votes for the next few weeks for which day you want your child’s class to perform.  I will do my absolute best to accommodate everyone.

Costumes

We have started measuring everyone for costumes. Costumes are not refundable or returnable.  If you think your dancer is not going to be able to participate (OR THINK THEY WILL NEED TO STOP ATTENDING CLASS FOR ANY REASON THAT IS NOT AN ACT OF GOD) please let me know ASAP so that we don’t order you a costume. And keep reminding me! Each year, Miss Donna puts these costumes on her personal credit card because we have to order them pretty early to ensure they arrive in plenty of time for the show.  So PLEASE note:  I can’t return or refund costumes.  If you order a costume and then decide that you need to go to Disney…you’ll have to take the costume with you to Disney.  Thank you so much for your detailed attention to this matter as it makes everyone’s life so much easier.

M&M, Pre-Ballet, Primary 1 and Primary 2 – $58

Primary 3 – $88 (2 costumes, Ballet and Tap)

Elementary 1, 2, 3 – $68

Jazz 1, Jazz 2, Jazz 3, Elementary tap, Jr. Tap, $68

Intermediate Ballet – $75

(Training Company, and Civic Ballet to be announced later.)

We need to make these payments sooner rather than later, so please pay this fee as soon as you are able.  We would like to order costumes the first week of March.  Thank you!

Calendar

*Reminder: We do not take Monday holidays off*

Next Monday Holiday is President’s Day: We are open.

SPRING BREAK:  April 11th -April 16th

Classes resume Monday, April 18th

Inclement Weather Policy

Our normal protocol is to follow the Hamilton County School System.  But! If they call for a snow day but there is no snow….there’s a good chance we will still be having class.  However, we realize we have families residing all through the area and we want you all to stay safe.  So use your best judgement and please check our Facebook or your email for those announcements.

Please make sure you are up to date on your tuition and if you have ANY questions about ANYTHING, please reach out to Miss Katie ([email protected])

Happy New Year!!

If you are new to us:  Welcome! We are happy you’re here

If you are returning to us: Welcome back!!

We also want to thank everyone for an absolutely beautiful Nutcracker.  It felt SO good to be in the theater and to share our favorite tradition again at last.

And speaking of….there’s still plenty of time to order Nutcracker DVDs:

$25—just send me an email and let me know what day you want. You are more than welcome to pay online as well.

Online Payments: Please note that payments via our website are now $2.75 due to an increase in processing fees.  And of course, you are always welcome to drop off a check or cash in the box outside my office.

Covid:  I was SO hoping I wouldn’t have to include this in this newsletter, but all of our normal protocols are still in place.

New Parents:  This means our lobby is for dropping your children off for class and then picking them up. This is an excellent time to read a book or run errands during your child’s class. Just make sure you’re back in time to pick them up.  You can visit our website for a full list of protocol.  We will keep you updated as time progresses.

THE RECITAL

The recital is slated to take place on June 4th & 5th at the UTC Fine Arts Center.

Now. As some of you know, we have been waiting on them to finish construction to the building.  We are REALLY HOPING they are going to be finished.  If something happens and we need to move venues, I’m going to desperately try to keep June 4th & 5th.  Sometimes…that can’t happen.  But I’m going to try my hardest.  As of right now, mark your calendars for June 4th and 5th as well as the 2nd and 3rd for Dress Rehearsals.  I’ll keep you posted as things develop.  Or hopefully not “develop,” but rather, go very smoothly and exactly as planned.

RECITAL COSTUMES

In the next couple of weeks, we are going to be measuring for recital costumes and then ordering them. ***PLEASE make sure you are current on your tuition. If you have any questions about your tuition (or anything else for that matter), contact Miss Katie at (423) 894-1406 or [email protected]

THANK YOU !! HAPPY DANCING!!!

Tuition

Tuition is based on an annual rate and is divided into 9 equal amounts to facilitate payment. Music and Movement and Pre-Ballet $55/month — All other classes: 1 class per week: $60;

2 classes per week $90; 3 classes per week $120.00 etc. Family discounts are available.  Payments are due the first class meeting of each month.

To keep foot traffic inside the studio down to a minimum, please pay electronically if you are able.  You can pay at massariwooddance.com with the “Make A Payment” button on the homepage or let Miss Katie know if you’d like to be sent an invoice each month.  Of course, we happily take good old – fashioned checks and cash…we just think this is another good way to socially distance.  Please direct any tuition or monetary questions/matters to Miss Katie. If you are ever having a problem, let us know!! We can’t help if we don’t know what’s wrong.

Classroom Manners

Only dancers are allowed in the dance studio during class times, please. No gum, or candy or drinks are allowed in the dance area. Please be on time for classes as it is very disruptive to others when there is a latecomer. The instructors reserve the right to remove a student from participation if they are unruly or uncooperative.

Lobby Etiquette

For the foreseeable future, we aren’t going to have a lobby available.  We ask that students enter the building no more than 5 minutes before class and that parents/siblings wait in their cars until class is over.  Please try as hard as possible to pick up and drop off your dancers on time so there is as little foot traffic inside the studio as possible.

These will include copies of their dances, coloring pages, terminology pages and a CD of their recital music for their dance in the Spring. There is a materials fee of $8 per notebook.

NUTCRACKER

All Ballet students from Primary 1 and up are eligible to participate in the Civic Ballet of Chattanooga’s annual production of the Nutcracker. We were hoping to be back in our home theater at UTC, but they aren’t quite finished with their renovations to the theater; we hope to be with them for the recital in the Spring.  However, we are ECSTATIC to report that we will be hosted by our friends at GPS, this year, whom we enjoy just as much. Most rehearsals will be during normal classes. Costumes are provided by the Civic Ballet. More information to follow.

A Note About COVID – 19

We promise to keep your dancers as safe, happy & healthy as we possibly can.  We do ask that all dancers where masks when possible and encourage parents to keep an open dialogue with their children about COVID -19 and being a good neighbor to their dance friends.

We stay up to date with the Hamilton County Health Department and the CDC and will always follow their guidance. Of course, we ask that if you or your child is not feeling well, PLEASE stay home and if you or someone in your home HAS been exposed to notify us immediately.

If there are questions that come up while you’re reading this newsletter and you can’t find the answer, we will find the answer out at dress rehearsal.  Again, if you’re missing dress rehearsal, PLEASE remind Miss Katie that you need info/you’re miss dress rehearsal.  Even if you’ve emailed her once…she was out of the office sick for MUCH longer than she would like, so go ahead and remind her and email her again.

The Venue

We are thrilled to be hosted again this year by the lovely and historic Ringgold Depot.

The Ringgold Depot

155 Depot St.

Ringgold, GA

30736

Parking is available directly in front of the building as well as across the street (the corner of Nashville St. & Depot St.)

Dress Rehearsal

Please arrive in costume at least 15 minutes before your scheduled rehearsal time and wait in the audience.  Please remain flexible as dress rehearsals can sometimes run a little shorter/longer than expected: that’s why it’s so important to be on time.  Our schedule is extremely tight, and we can’t hold rehearsal if someone is late. We want to make sure everything looks and feels just right for the performance and that your dancers are as comfortable in their new dancing space as possible! This means ready to walk on stage 15 minutes before your scheduled rehearsal time. If you/your dancer is in more than one number, please bring your other costume(s) with you and there are dressing areas available (though very limited and obviously will be used during performances for those that need them).

Please try on your costumes BEFORE you get to the theater. Please let us know if there is an issue and we will try and help you!

Class Moms!!

Since we are trying to keep this as close to a normal recital as we can, we really want our classes  to be able to sit in the audience and watch each other perform.  It would help us out A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOT  if we could have a Class Mom or two sit with each class in the audience and/or be backstage with classes that perform in each act (Example: Primary 3 Tap is in Act 1, Primary 3 Ballet is in Act 2)

On Thursday(6/10) that would mean 1 or 2 Class Moms for Primary 3, Elementary 1, PreBallet (TUES), Primary 1 (TUES).

Friday (6/11): M&Ms, Primary 2, PreBallet (MON), Primary 1 (THURS)

We would also need you to kind of keep on eye on Jazz 1 and 2 girls just to make sure Miss Katie can make triple sure where everyone is all the time.  We PROMISE you would still get to see your little one perform.  Miss Katie will personally see to it, so PLEASE send her an email and let her know if you would be able to be a Class Mom.  We appreciate them more than you could ever know.

Various

While your dancer is sitting in the audience watching their fellow dancers its really important that we remind them to be a good audience member.  This means they need to pay attention to the stage: no talking, no wiggling, no phones, no entering/exiting the theater during a performance etc.  As a studio, we like to practice Good Theater Etiquette and instill it at a very early age.

For the safety of all of the dancers, NO CAMERAS (video or flash) are allowed in the theater. Our amazing videographer, Luke Chandler, will be filming the show so you can have a beautiful memento.  They are $20 and you can email Miss Katie for an order or there will be order forms at dress rehearsal.

Tickets

Tickets are $15.00 with $1.75 service fee.

To purchase tickets:

Go to our Facebook Page and click the “Buy Tickets” tab or look for the “Buy Tickets” button on the matching Facebook event, or

Just call 855-222-2TIX (2849) and select Option 5

Or call them for any problems you may have with tickets!

Note that you will need a credit or debit card to buy tickets, and that tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. So, buy early to get better seats!

TutuTix charges a low, fair fee for their service. You’ll see their $1 per ticket fee, plus a 5% processing charge added to your order at checkout.

You’ll have several options for how you want your ticket delivered. You can have it emailed to you, sent to your mobile phone internet browser, and even add it to your Apple Passbook (if you have the latest iPhone software) at no charge! Or, you can choose to have TutuTix mail you foil-embossed keepsake tickets for an additional fee– with your dancer’s name printed directly on the ticket!

***

**Please keep in mind that seating is General Admission – this means no assigned seats.  Theater policy is to open the doors to the audience 30 minutes before the show starts.  THAT means that if you try to get there two hours early to save seats…you won’t be able to.  This is always the best way to be fair to all audience members**

One of the most important things that we want them to take with them is the fact that they enjoyed what they did.  The bottom line is NOT that they did their dance perfectly, but that they had fun doing it…and eventually that is what will turn them into beautiful dancers.

Any questions: Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Miss Katie and please make sure you’re up to date on your payments.

We are finalizing our Summer Schedule. Stay Tuned!

See you onstage!  Happy Dancing!!

Costumes are still arriving at Miss Katie’s house every day and we are excited to hand them out.  They are even more beautiful and sparkly in person than we ever could have thought.  We will begin handing them out next week—if your dancer’s costume isn’t handed out, that’s because we are still waiting for the entire class’s costumes to arrive.  Sometimes,  costume companies will send out just one costume at a time (as they become available at the warehouse) and some will mail them out all at once.  In some cases, we ARE waiting for some class’s costumes to ship…but they should all be in by next week.

Spring Break 2021 is April 5th – April 10th
Happy Spring!

Massari-Wood Dance Center March 2021 News

Spring is in the air and that means we are officially underway working on the recital!  We are still ironing out a few details, but we are absolutely thrilled that we will be able to have a performance!!

The staff of the Ringgold Depot is kind enough to have us back and right now, we have the recital/rehearsals slated for June 9th, 10th, & 11th.  We don’t know who will perform/rehearse which days/what times, yet, because there are still a few things up in the air.

One of these factors is wanting to use one of our normal theaters.  As of right now, none of them are receiving guests to use their facilities.  This may or may not change in a month or two; we have no idea.  We are really hoping to be back in one of our normal theaters, but we are uncertain if that will happen this go around—we will keep you posted quickly as possible.  In the meantime, we loved the way things went last year at The Depot and couldn’t be happier if we do have the recital there.

So tentatively mark your calendars for June 9th-11th  for the recital at The Depot.  If there are ANY changes to that, Miss Katie will let you know ASAP.  We thank you for continuing to be flexible during what is still a strange time.

Costumes:

Miss Donna and the other teachers have been hard at work picking out THE most beautiful recital costumes.  We will be emailing you soon with pictures and costume details.  Miss Donna will also tell you about her plans for this year’s recital theme, “A Child’s Garden.”

Each year, Miss Donna puts these costumes on her personal credit card, and it would be helpful if we could pay off those charges as soon as possible. That being said, if you have not paid for your recital costume(s) yet, we are accepting ALL payments at this time 🙂

Primary 3 – $90 (2 costumes, Ballet and Tap)

M&M, Pre-Ballet, Primary 1 and Primary 2 – $60

Elementary 1, 2, 3 – $70

Jazz 1, Jazz 2, Jazz 3, Elementary tap, Jr. Tap, $70

Intermediate Ballet – $75

SPRING BREAK

The studio will be closed for Spring Break April 5th-10th with classes resuming on April 12th.

All *normal* COVID protocols are still in place and you can see a full list on our website:  massariwooddance.com

We will keep you posted on all recital developments.

Please make sure you are up to date on your tuition/costume payments.  If you have any questions or problems, talk to Miss Katie.

Happy Dancing!!

Tuesday

February 16th, 2021

We are having class today, Tuesday 2/16/21. As always, do whatever is safe for YOU!

Massari – Wood Dance Center February 2021 News

We want to say a big thank you to everyone for all the time and effort put into filming our, “Very Virtual Nutcracker (Abridged).” We had so much fun and hope you did too!  As soon as we have everything sorted out, we will share it with you.  Can’t wait for you to see it! Everyone did a superb job, and we are so proud of each and every one of them.

Now that have put our Nutcracker to bed for the year, we are full steam ahead on the recital.  We are still trying to figure out the particulars, as a lot of our normal theaters are still closed to us.  We are hoping for the last weekend of May or the first weekend of June.  As soon as we know, you’ll know.  I promise.  In the meantime, we are going to start measuring for costumes!!  We are going to order them as soon (and they all go on Miss Donna’s credit card), so the sooner you all can pay for them, the better.  Ideally, by March.

These prices are an estimate right now… occasionally we are charged more for shipping or sales tax… we will let you know.

M&M, Pre-Ballet, Primary 1 and Primary 2 – $60

Primary 3 – $90 (2 costumes, Ballet and Tap)

Elementary 1, 2, 3 – $70

Jazz 1, Jazz 2, Jazz 3, Elementary tap, Jr. Tap, $70

Intermediate Ballet – $75

(Training Company, and Civic Ballet to be announced later.)

Spring Break:  The studio will be closed for Spring Break Monday,

April 5th -10th

Inclement Weather Policy

As a rule, we go with Hamilton County schools as to whether we will be cancelling classes due to inclement weather (especially if the weather is actually inclement).  However, we will always keep you posted via Facebook & Email.

Our *normal* COVID protocols are still in place and you can see a full list on our website:  massariwooddance.com

We will keep you posted on all recital developments.

Please make sure you are up to date on your tuition payments.  If you have any questions or problems, talk to Miss Katie.

Happy Dancing!

Winter Break 2020

Happy Holidays Everyone!! We are officially on Winter Break (Dec. 14th – Jan. 10th ) with normal classes resuming on January 11th, 2021. Peace & Joy to all of our wonderful dance famlies and friends.

2020 Virtual Nutcracker Info

In our NUTCRACKER…. the dancers in the Primary 1,2,3…. All Elementary… and Intermediates are included. The plan is to film each class’s section or “dance(s)” in the show.  Ideally, we will film during their normal class time during the week of Monday, 12/14. However, we do need to combine a few classes because they perform together.

–Our Primary 1 and 2s will need to be combined somehow and our Primary 3s and Elementary 1s. But more on that later as I figure it out and see what works best for everyone.

Elementary 2/3 (Party Girls) will film their dances from the Party Scene. Miss   Donna has been talking with them about being on the lookout for party dresses from their closets or a thrift store.

The Intermediates will film the Gypsy piece from the Party Scene as well as the Chinese Court from Chinese in Act II.  For Gypsies:  They will use our skirts/vest and come up with scarves, blouses etc…They will wear our costumes for the Chinese Court.

Primary 3 (Mice) will film the Battle Scene with Elementary 1 (Soldiers)

We will provide the costumes for them.

Primary 1  and Primary 2 (Cherubs and Angels, respectively) and we would film their dance and their section with the Sugar Plum Fairy. We will provide the costumes for them.

Elementary 1 will also film Mother Ginger’s Ginger Snaps

We will *probably* be providing their costumes.  If that changes, I will let you know.

For an extra holiday treat, our Civic Ballet will film two of our favorites from the show, the Snow Scene and Waltz of the Flowers.

Then, we will upload all of these to our PRIVATE Youtube channel.  These links are also private (just like the classes we sent out this summer) and can only be accessed by a person who has the link.  Then we will email you a list of links (in order) so that you can experience The Nutcracker: Abriged…very, very Abriged with your friends and family.

And after all that hard and wonderful work:

Christmas break begins Monday, Dec 21st with classes resuming on Monday, Jan. 4th. Please make sure you are up to date on your tuition payments, and let Miss Katie know if you have any questions!

The Studio will be closed Nov. 23rd – Nov. 28th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

We will have dance folders for M&M, Pre-Ballet, Primary 1, 2 and 3 for each student.  These will include copies of their dances, coloring pages, terminology pages and a CD of their recital dance next spring. There is a materials fee of $6 per notebook

NUTCRACKER

All Ballet students from Primary 1 and up are eligible to participate in the Civic Ballet of Chattanooga’s annual production of the Nutcracker.  We are still trying to figure out a way to make that happen this year…it is truly one of our favorite traditions. Stay tuned for more information on that.   Most rehearsals will be during normal classes. Costumes are provided by the Civic Ballet.

RECITAL INFORMATION AND SCHEDULE

Massari – Wood Dance Center Recital 2020 News (finally!)

Hello WONDERFUL dance families!!

We are BEYOND thrilled to have the recital next week!!  It’s going to be different than what we are used to but it is going to be very special and very beautiful AND its next week!

Thursday, July 23rd & Friday, July 24th

The Venue

This year, we are at the beautiful and historic Ringgold Depot.  It’s a charming little spot (built in 1849!!) that used to be a train station and has been converted into a fun event space.

The Ringgold Depot is located at

155 Depot Street
Ringgold, GA 30736

(The Corner of Depot Street and Hwy 41.  Right across from Tennessee St. I have attached a map to the email if you need it or just put the address in your GPS of choice)

Parking:  There are three different options for Parking at The Depot.  There are a handful of parking spots in front of the building.  There is also parking available across the street (to the right if you are looking head on at The Depot, next to an overpass), next to a walking bridge that will walk you over the overpass.  There is also parking in a GRAVEL lot to the left of The Depot. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE PAVED ROUNDABOUT THAT IS ALSO TO THE LEFT OF THE BUILDING.

Waivers & Masks

As we are all PAINFULLY aware, we are living in strange times. That being said there are a few things that we ask of our families to insure a safe and happy experience.

1.       We  STRONGLY ENCOURAGE everyone to wear a mask .  We will have masks for you if you forget yours at home.  Also note, PLEASE don’t come if you are not well!!  We will be taking temperatures at the door.  If ANYONE has a temperature of 100.4 or above, they will be turned away for the safety of everyone in the building.

Dancers will be allowed on stage without masks during the short time performing and for the couple of minutes for the photo opportunity after.

  1. I have also attached a waiver to print out at home and sign.  It just says that you acknowledge the risk of COVID-19 by entering a public place and that you will not hold Massari-Wood Dance Center or the Depot liable in case, God Forbid, you or someone in your party falls ill.  EVERYONE IN YOUR PARTY MUST HAVE THEIR OWN WAIVER. It will save TONS of time if you print it out before you arrive, but I will have extras in case you forget or are unable to print it out beforehand.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.  Our goal is to make sure we all have a safe and wonderful experience and these two things will help a lot!!  And speaking of safety:

Audience Arrangement

  1. We would like to have the audience arranged by family pods.  When you enter the theater there will be rows of chairs set up: thirty on the left and thirty on the right.  For example, if you have four people in your party, find four chairs together (but feel free to distance while in your “pod”) and sort of pull them away to have your own little bubble.  If there are six people in your party, find six chairs etc.  Please let me know if you have any questions about this.
  2. You will only be in the audience for your particular dancer’s dance. For example: if you have a dancer in Primary 1, you will only watch Primary 1 and then leave.  If you have multiple dancers participating and need to stay in the audience for a time period, let Miss Katie know and she will make arrangements for you to stay in the audience.
  3. We will have sanitizer and paper towels available to sanitize your seating if you so choose.

Arriving at the Depot

Once you arrive at the Depot, you will enter through the front door. If you are facing the Depot from the street, it is the very last door on the right.  If you can, please make sure your entire party enters at the same time.  You will be greeted by Miss Katie in the lobby.  She will take your temperature and have sanitizer available for all of your sanitation needs.  You will also turn in your waiver and she will escort you inside the theater to your seating and the stage. Once we have all the dancers, we are going to rehearse the piece once (mini-dress rehearsal) and then perform it. So, you’ll get to see it twice! At the end of their performance, they will stay on stage for a short photo opportunity.

Costumes

In an effort to curb too much gathering, please have them wear their costume to the theater.  If they are wearing more than one costume, there ARE changing areas backstage.  In the case of the Primary 3s and Elementary 1s, we are going to close the curtain to the stage and use it as one big changing room (like the band or orchestra room).  PLEASE remember to bring all the costumes/shoes etc you need will need that day.  If they are in multiple numbers, pink tights will make changing less complicated (under bright lights the pale pink washes out to look neutral) If they are only in a jazz number then tan or flesh tone tights are fine.  If they haven’t done so already (which I cannot imagine) make sure they have tried on their costumes so you can adjust it as needed.  If you seem to have a SUPER complicated problem, email Miss Katie and she and Miss Donna will put their heads together to come up with a solution.

Donations cheerfully accepted

Since we are having a VERY different recital this year, we are not selling tickets.  Unfortunately, the Depot still charges a rental fee for 3 days plus assistance from our tech crew.  I DO understand that some of us have lost jobs and revenue during these uncertain times, and we do NOT want to add to your difficulty. Donations are not required but CERTAINLY appreciated.  Any amount will be helpful.  We will be accepting cash, checks, and all major credit cards as well as extra change from your sofa cushions.

VIRTUAL Recital DVDs  –

Our wonderful videographer, Luke Chandler, is going to be filming the whole show so that you can have a memento and say you saw the whole thing!! We will be selling them for $20 to offset his cost. Remember he will be sitting there for 2 solid days filming us! Just email Miss Katie and let her know you’d like to order one

A NOTE ABOUT TRAINS from Miss DONNA:

Katie reminded me that this charming Theater was once a train station and because of that, it is located right next to train tracks!!!!  At random times, and for no apparent reason, a train MAY go by while we are performing.  They are loud. If that happens…. I am going to teach a Choo Choo dance….  To the dancers…. We will stop the number and start again so the video will show a complete number without interruption.  (we will laugh about this in years to come!!) 😀

Serenade-

The Civic Ballet of Chattanooga Senior and Training Companies have been working SO hard on an amazing piece done to Tchaikovskys’ Serenade for Strings. It doesn’t have a story, but it is achingly beautiful, and our dancers make it even more so. It was choreographed in 1935 and is still a beloved classic to this day.  We would love for you to see it.  It will be performed on Thursday evening..If you’d like to be in the audience, please let Miss Katie know so she can make a place for you.

Please email Miss Katie at [email protected] with ANY questions.

See you soon!! Happy Dancing!!

SAFETY AND PROTOCOLS
We have to ask that ONLY students come into the studio… Parents,Grandparents.. other caregivers and siblings shouldn’t come in for obvious reasons.

2. PLEASE talk to the students. Especially the Littles… I know they understand..but I also know they will want to hug their classmates and stuff that…well… generally they can’t do right now.. social distancing will be in place…. we are limiting the class sizes…so it would be helpful with scheduling if you could contact Katie and let her know whether you are planning to come or not.  WE would never ask you to do anything you are uncomfortable with!!

3. When they come in…they should go straight to their studio… there are sanitizing stations in the lobby and outside of Studio 1 & Studio 3…They should bring all of their things in and place them at their barre space.. not leave in the lobby.

When class is over… they should leave as quickly as they can so we can get ready for the next group by sanitizing whatever is necessary.
RECITAL NEWS 6/23/20

Hello everyone,

Good news for us!  We have finally found a venue for our recital–

The Historic Depot in Ringgold!!  It’s a great spot… an old Train Station that has been used as a theater for the past few years. The challenge was not only to find a spot that fit our needs (space, budget, technical etc.) ; also we needed two days to be able to set up (we need to use our non-slip dance floor for safety), and they had July the 23rd and 24th available that is a Thursday and Friday.

Performance dates (we will send a more specific timetable soon)
Thursday, July 23 (Evening) the Civic ballet, Miss Maggies Contemporary piece, the Senior Piece,Jazz 3, Adult/Teen Tap and Intermediates

Friday, July 24 morning.afternoon.evening:

M&Ms, Preballet, Primary classes 1,2,&3, Elementary classes 1,2&3, Elementary Tap, Jr Tap, Jazz 1&2

The plan moving forward is to use the 3 weeks before the show to have rehearsal classes for the dancers to refresh their memories and in some cases to learn the end of the numbers.  On the 23rd we will move our floor in and tape it down and have the audience seats placed with distance in between.

We will then try to schedule the classes (probably 2 at a time) so that there is enough time to come in (dressed in their costumes and makeup), practice in the space and then perform their dances for friends and families.  Then those folks will clear the building so we can get ready for the next group.

We are planning on videoing all the numbers and, we will put them all together for a “virtual recital”.  This is by FAR the CRAZIEST thing we have EVER done… but these are very unusual times!!

We will need your help of course…In accordance with the CDC Guidelines, we will be limiting the audience numbers, so we will need for everyone to let us know

  1. Who is participating
  2. How many people will be in the audience

I’m hoping since we are doing it this way, we won’t have to turn anyone away… but it will REALLY be helpful to have a list.

email : [email protected]

In addition, the Civic Ballet and Training Companies have been working on some incredible pieces.  If anyone would like to see those, they can sign up to come in on Thursday night when these dances will be performed.

PLEASE know, once again, that I would NEVER ask anyone to do something that they were uncomfortable doing.  I TOTALLY understand!!  If this is not for you, please let us know so we can plan the rehearsals accordingly.  Letting us know will also give us an idea if we will need to combine a class. For instance: if three Primary 1s from one class and 1 in another want to participate… it makes sense to put those four together still doing the same dance.

I WILL say that I was very encouraged by our “trial run” the week of 5/25. Everyone did a great job of helping us follow the guidelines and I think we can move forward with confidence that we can have rehearsal classes beginning on July 1st going through July 21st; then give all of our dancers their “moment” on the stage… a recital experience! 🙂

The schedule at the studio will follow the schedule we did the week of 5/25; we will send that out in a few days so you can plan.

I can’t tell you how excited we are about seeing all of our STARS on stage!!

See you soon!

Love, Miss Donna

**PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAILS FOR ADDITIONAL DETAILS RE Our Performance and classes leading up to it.

Modified class schedule the week of 5/25-5:30

Hello Dance Families! Just sending some additional information to try to tie up loose ends and clear up confusion.

This coming week (May 25-May 30) we are going to have some modified classes.  Again, this is just for this week because it is the last official week of classes for the studio.  Our thought is that this is a good opportunity for the dancers to work on the choreography that they have been seeing online… it’s so much better to see in person.  PLUS… we will be handing out their costumes to take home!!:-)

When we finally settle on a place and time (tentatively end of June/early July) for our performance… we will offer 2 to 3 weeks of classes/rehearsals to let the dancers brush up on everything.

We have reworked the schedule for this week a bit to stagger the classes to keep us from overcrowding.  Some classes may start a few minutes earlier… some may finish a bit later… I hope that you all will be open to being flexible.  For instance… Miss Maggie who has been teaching the Jazz 2 classes has a Church commitment on Wednesdays but she teach it if we start the class at 4:30 and end at 5:15.  Miss Katie has attached the modified schedule to this email. PLEASE let us know if you are coming to class.   ** Please note… there will be no Monday Basic Ballet Class.

All of us are VERY aware that we need to social distance as much as possible… we will do everything we possibly can to follow the guidelines.

  1. Masks are encouraged but not mandated.
  2. Hand sanitizing before an after each class for everyone and know that the barres will be sanitized and safe.
  3. Parents/caregivers: As mentioned in the previous letter, we are asking ALL non-students to wait in their car until their child is finished.  We realize this is not ideal, but Katie will greet the students at the door with a smile and friendly hand to direct them to their studio. After their class, you will be able to pick them up just outside the studio door. Please note because of our schedule this week… please be punctual about dropping off and picking up your dancers.

If you are still not comfortable coming in, then by all means you shouldn’t, and we TOTALLY understand.

For those of you choosing to stay home, we WILL be offering a ZOOM meeting during their class; your dancer can at least see the choreography while it is being rehearsed.  Be on the lookout in your email for a link to your zoom class.  If you haven’t had the pleasure of using zoom yet, please email Miss Katie ([email protected])  and she is happy to answer any questions that you might have about it.We will also be sending out Youtube links as we have been for the past two months. The links will be a little different than the in-person classes we are having this week as the in person classes will be shorter and have costumes handed out during that time.  We encourage you to attend both

We know this is a strange time for everyone but there is light at the end of the tunnel.  We have always found comfort in our dance family as we hope you find in us.  We are a strong community and will navigate this together to come out dancing on the other side.

*Notice to all visitors and students:

Hello Dance Families! It’s SO hard to know what to do in these stressful times! I TRULY believe that we can easily follow the CDC guideline and keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible at the studio. However we also want to do our part to help prevent further problems.
At this point, we are choosing to follow the Hamilton County School closing plan . Massari Wood will suspend regular classes until March 30.
I’m trying to figure out how to make this work for us without too much disruption.
The first thing we can do is cancel the Spring Break week that was scheduled for April 20-25 so that will give us back one week. We are looking at several other options which aren’t going to be ideal but will be a way to get back on schedule. I will be able to give everyone more details in the next week.
In an effort to keep things fairly normal…. I will be posting the last news letter on our webpage ( under announcements) and will be sending pictures via email of the beautiful costumes that we have ordered!! ?
Mean while… it’s hard to believe that something as simple and easy as washing your hands would be the best thing we can do but apparently it is absolutely true.
As always.. Love and HUGS……. hmmm….. well LOVE anyway! ?
Miss Donna

Classes are starting to settle down and the teachers are teaching. Be sure and come to class every week on time!! We DO NOT take a Fall Break. So, even if your school is on break, we are still here.  ALSO: we DO NOT take the Monday holidays. If we did, then the Monday students would miss a total of seven classes.

HELP!!   There are a couple of VERY large classes this year.  It would really be helpful if we could do some rearranging….. Is there ANYBODY in the Tuesday Primary 1 or Primary 2 classes that could start coming on Thursdays?? Pretty Please? With Sugarplums on top?

GPS NOTES

GPS is located at 205 Island Ave. Chattanooga, TN 37405

When you arrive, follow the signs to the Frierson Theater/Commons area and then find a spot to park.  There is no specific place, so wherever you’d like to park is just fine.  The Theater is located as you walk in the front door… please come in quietly as other rehearsals will be going on…. you will be directed to dressing rooms. Please make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes before your performance/rehearsal time to make sure everything runs smoothly.  Make sure your children do not wear their costume to the theater, we will have plenty of dressing areas that will be assigned once you get there. They are welcome to wear a cover up over their leotard and tights.  Of course, make sure you bring their costume to the theater for rehearsals and performances.  Since all the costumes look exactly the same, PLEASE label your child’s costume with their name on a piece of masking tape.

CLASS MOMS!

Class Moms / Sitters… Thank you SO much for your help!!   It’s great to know that you… the unsung heroines  of  dressing room are back here  duties will involve… being  with the children at all times… we need two because one might need to go with a little dancer on a bathroom run while the other stays. It’s helpful to have hairpins,  tissues,

combs/brushes maybe extra lipstick and a big SMILE.

We are still trying to decide if it is possible for all of the students to go out into the STUDENT reserved section to watch the beautiful piece that the Civic Ballet has been working on… it’s always nice for them to see where we want them to be in a few years .(also it’s only 12 min)  IF we DO take them out…it is the very first piece in the show… Class Moms will sit with them and then go back with them to dressing rooms …to help them slip into their costumes… they will have at LEAST 30 -45  minutes before they go onstage….BY the way… Class MOMS… BACKSTAGE is a great spot to watch the dancers on stage.

NO COSTUMES OUT IN THE AUDIENCE PLEASE…. They should have street clothes or a cover up of some sort… go ahead and fix hair and makeup and head pieces…. and wear a  coverup (big shirt… dress… something easy to slip out of… the costumes are all easy to get into.

                                                     **************

WE STILL NEED A FEW MORE CLASS MOMS!! OR RESPONSIBLE GRANDMOTHERS/BABYSITTERS/RESPONSIBLE TEENAGERS!! PLEASE HELP!! ESPECIALLY THE SATURDAY PRE BALLET CLASS!! WE NEED YOU!!
